Mountain Biokovo - the biggest mountain in the Croatian coast, arises above the whole Makarska riviera, with its highest brow Sveti Jure (1762 m). It can be reached by vehicle what makes it especially attractive and accessible for an average tourists. Apart from the rich Mediterranean flora in mountain Biokovo you will also find a few endemic plants like biokovsko zvonce (Edraianthus pumilio) or sulicasta zecina (Centaurea cuspidata). Out of the animal spaces, chamois and mouflon are especially attractive as well as birds partridge and Royal eagle. Because of mentioned characteristics Biokovo was in 1981 declared a protected park of nature within the surface of 19.550 hectares.
